Members of the Forked Deer Long Beard Chapter recently completed a wheelchair-bound blind on Moss Island in Dyer County. The blind offers hunters with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy their sport from the comfort of an enclosed blind. It features a concrete ramp and floor and metal siding with an open gun window in the front.

Hunters will be able to hunt deer and turkey from the blind, which was sponsored by the Forked Deer Long beard Chapter and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. People with disabilities can reserve the blind by calling 731-285-5744.

The site for a second wheelchair-bound blind has been picked out at the Bogota Wildlife Management Area.

The 2010 Tennessee spring turkey season runs from April 3 through May 16. Hunters may bag one bearded turkey per day, but cannot exceed four per season. Turkeys taken on all quota hunts and specially designated WMAs are bonus turkeys.

What a great thing to do. This proves there are some good people in Dyer COunty. These guys are so thoughtful to help the disabled. If the truth was known I bet they had a lot of fun building it. I have found when you are doing something for others it just plain makes you feel good.

You're right, TNGG, it does a body good to help others but the fact is if the wheelchair user hadn't pitched in and helped those mighty hunters, they would have never finished that blind. LOL. It's a great project, fellows!!! We'll be listening to you Sunday at 9:30 am on 105.3 FM.
