Rex Harlan Edwards age 82, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010. Mr. Edwards was born in Gibson County on October 3, 1927. His parents were Will Harlan and Martha Jane Hufstedler Edwards. He was retired from Colonial Rubber Works/Polyone and Volunteer Express. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Joe Naylor, Rev. Loren Stephens, and Rev. Lyle Larson. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
He was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Discipleship Training Director for over 30 years. He served as a deacon for 50 years. Mr. Edwards had a heart for missions and participated in several short term mission trips including trips to the Philippines. Mr. Rex served as a member of the Dyer Baptist Association Executive Board for many years.
He is survived by a daughter Patricia Edwards Larson and husband Jimmy, and a son Philip Rex Edwards and wife Donna of Dyersburg. He was Gramps to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His grandchildren are Bryan Edwards Larson and wife Rebecca, Virginia Paige Edwards of Nashville, Lyle Patrick Larson and wife Susan of Goodlettsville, TN, Jennifer Edwards Milam and husband T.J. of Nashville, Zach Walden and wife Gena of Dyersburg. His great grandchildren are Elizabeth Belle Larson of Nashville, Elijah James Larson, Luke Jett Larson, and Madilyn Grace Larson of Goodlettsville, TN and Payton Hinson of Dyersburg. Five sisters, Doris Sue Reed (Sonny) of Gibson Wells, TN, Jane Richardson of Trenton, Joann Freeman (Larry) and Kay McAlexander of Jackson and Judy Elliott (Ronnie) of Charlotte, N.C. and one brother, Jimmy Edwards and wife Linda of Gibson Wells, TN and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Nell Hinson Edwards, his parents Will Harlan and Martha Jane Hufstedler Edwards and a brother Max Carroll Edwards.
Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Ward, Thomas Boals, Sammy Tickle, Bobby Fisher, Lewis Luckett and Eddie Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Southside Baptist Church.
Lester Wayne Tipps, 57, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cryer Funeral Home in Obion with the Rev. Harvel Baker officiating. Burial will be in Elbridge Cemetery in Obion.
The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Hollis Tipps of Dyersburg; two stepdaughter, Tina Hollis of Dyersburg and Cindy Keeling of Obion; four sisters, Patsy Patton of Dyersburg, Darlene Bumpus of Union City, Shelia Cashion of Obion and Susan Austin of Rutherford; three brothers, Tony Tipps and Bennett Tipps, both of Dyersburg and George Tipps of Union City; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy L. Tipps and Margie Moody Tipps.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Tipps, Christopher Tipps, Kevin Tipps, Brian Pollock, Jeremy Pollock and Terry Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Triston Noel, Tyler Wagster, Michael Ladd and Mark Branch.
