Monnell Hendrix, 83, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

She was retired from Dyersburg Electric System and a member of Hawthorne Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Dyer County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jason Reynolds officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Hendrix and Jerry Hendrix, both of Dyersburg; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, N.C. Hendrix; and her parents, Campbell and Bennie Hubbard.

Pallbearers will be Robert Pollard, Brent Welch, Steve Crumley, Clint Tull, Kevin Gilliland and Zac Haynes. Honorary pallbearer will be Johnny Garner.

The family requests that any memorials be made to The Path Baptist Mission, 140 Hawthorne St., Dyersburg, TN 38024.

William Porter Pickens Jr.


William Porter Pickens Jr., 76, of Leland, Miss., died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.

He was a TV engineer. He was a native of Dyersburg, where he graduated from high school. He was a graduate of Murray State University in Murray, Ky. He was a band director at Erin High School, a resident of Leland since 1974 where he was employed with WABG-TV, WXVT-TV and later with PBS-TV, retiring in 1996 due to ill health. He was a member of Leland United Methodist Church.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Leland United Methodist Church. Burial was in Dyersburg. Boone Funeral Home in Leland, Miss. was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a wife, Mayme Bass Pickens of Leland, Miss.; two daughters, Rebecca P. Sisson of San Antonio, Texas and Kate P. Pickens of Leland, Miss.; two sons, Robert Pickens of Nashville and William David Pickens of Leland, Miss.; former son-in-law, Doyle Sisson of Accomac, Va.; his future son-in-law, James Lofton of Leland, Miss.; a sister, Dorothy P. Rogers of Dyersburg; a brother, Edd Pickens of Dyersburg; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
