Sentences for theft, fraud given in circuit court

In Dyer County Circuit Court on Dec. 14-15:

* Donna Anderson, also known as Donna Ham, 40, 304 McGaughey, pleaded guilty to fraudulent use of credit card in excess of $1,000. She was accused of using a church credit card to buy more than $3,000 worth of goods at Wal-Mart between March 22 and March 23. She was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay $3,738.77 restitution to Wal-Mart.

* John Andrew, 37, 731 Oak St. in Newbern, was sentenced to three years in prison but the sentence was suspended to 30 days in jail followed by two years, 11 months of supervised probation. He was found guilty of aggravated assault on Nov. 19, accused of threatening a fellow Newbern resident.

* Chandra D. Cage, also known as Chandra Graves, 38, 577 Tucker St., pleaded guilty to three charges of writing worthless checks and one count driving with a revoked license. She was sentenced to about two years of supervised probation and ordered to pay a total of $1,816.44 restitution.

Four additional charges of worthless checks and one count of forgery were dismissed.

On two of the worthless check charges, Cage was sentenced to concurrent sentences of 11 months, 29 days supervised probation. She was ordered to pay restitution of $406.32 to Peebles; $53.19 to Dairy Queen; $47.44 to Neighborhood Market; $1,055 to Auston Mealer; $211.58 to Little General; and $42.91 to Duncan's Food Mart.

On the third worthless check charge, she was sentenced to 11 months, 29 days of supervised probation.

On the license charge, she was sentenced to six months of supervised probation. The sentences for forgery and the revoked license are to be served concurrently with each other but consecutively with the worthless check charges.

* Victor Dewayne Coleman, 34, 1227 Hornbrook, pleaded guilty to selling more than half a gram of cocaine. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and will serve that time consecutively to all prior sentences and parole revocations. He also was fined $2,500.

* Jerry Matthews, 47, address unavailable, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft of property less than $500. He was accused of taking $350 from Tiger Express No. 1 on Feb. 3, 2009; $100 from First Citizens National Bank on Feb. 4, 2009; and $999 from First State Bank on Feb. 4, 2009.

On the first count, he was sentenced to 11 months, 29 days in jail and ordered to pay restitution to the Tiger Express.

On the second and third counts, he was sentence to 11 months, 29 days in jail but the sentences were suspended. He was placed on supervised probation and ordered to reimburse First Citizens National Bank and First State Bank.

Matthews will serve all three sentences consecutively.

* Robrequiz Phelps, 30, address unavailable, pleaded guilty to failure to appear. He was accused of failing to return to jail after leaving a rehabilitation program last May. He was sentenced to three years in prison as a multiple offender, which means he must serve 35 percent of his sentence before being considered for parole. The sentence will be served consecutively to his prior sentence.

* Theresa L. Reid, 29, 1010 Upper Finley Road, pleaded guilty to theft of property less than $500 and failure to appear.

She was accused of writing and cashing checks on another person's account. She was sentenced to 11 months, 29 days in jail and must pay $677.79 restitution to the account holder.

On the failure to appear charge, she was sentenced to a year in prison and will serve that time concurrently with the sentence for theft.

* Billy Clay Simpson, 30, Highway 211 North in Dyersburg, pleaded guilty to theft of property in excess of $10,000. He was accused of taking tools, a generator, a welder, a bush hog, 200 feet of copper welding leads, copper wire, metal sheets, 25 feet of roof seal caps, short iron, a hay rake, a hay bailer, a grain trailer and other property on June 17. He was sentenced to six years in prison, with the sentence being suspended after six months and the remainder being spent on supervised probation. He also was ordered to pay $10,000 restitution to the victim.

* Richard Squint III, 19, 508 Brown St., pleaded guilty to failure to appear. He was accused of failing to return to jail after leaving a rehabilitation program in August. He was sentenced to two years in prison and will serve that time consecutively to his previous sentences.

* Keaston Danterrian Tipton, 19, address unavailable, pleaded guilty to selling more than half a gram of cocaine. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and will serve that time concurrently with a previous sentence. He also was fined $2,000.

* Curtis Ray Tyler, 25, 2800 Highway 104 West, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft of property less than $500.

He was accused of stealing $62.30 worth of batteries and razors from Wal-Mart in March 2009 and a box of 30 candy bars from Wal-Mart in May.

He was sentenced to 11 months, 29 days in the county jail, suspended to 120 days. He will spend the rest of the sentences on unsupervised probation. The two sentences are to be served concurrently with each other and consecutively with two prior sentences.
