Tennessee State Troopers captured a wanted fugitive from Mississippi on Monday evening on I-155 in Dyersburg.

Derik Williams, 26, 48 Hill View Drive, Senatobia, Miss., was driving eastbound on I-155 in a Chevy Malibu with another black male as his passenger.

THP Trooper Jeff Fuller pulled the duo over, at approximately 9:45 p.m., for speeding. The traffic stop took place at mile marker 15, which is close to First Christian Church on Community Road and Trooper Grant Montgomery assisted Fuller.

During the traffic stop, Williams' passenger bolted from the scene, jumping a fence and eluding the troopers. He was described as wearing a black short-sleeve shirt and black jeans.

Williams was wanted in Tate County, Miss. on charges of escape and burglary and was taken into custody to be extradited.

Williams stated he did not know the passenger and had picked him up at a bus station in Memphis on his way to Terra Haute, Ind.

The Dyersburg Police Department and the Lauderdale County tracking K-9 unit assisted in the manhunt for the passenger, who was not found.

Williams is in the Dyer County Jail awaiting extradition to Tate County, Miss.

Fuller and Montgomery are members of the THP's Interdiction Plus team, which focuses on identifying, arresting and prosecuting the most serious criminals who travel across the state of Tennessee.
