Gates police chief found dead

Sunday, April 25, 2010

On Thursday, April 22, at approximately 10 p.m., officers from the Halls Police Department and the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department responded to the home of Gates Police Chief Marvin Brown at 324 Sumrow St. in Halls, where he was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Halls Police Department, assisted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, is conducting the investigation of the death, and is awaiting final autopsy results from the Shelby County Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of death. However, at this time, there does not appear to be any suspicious behavior or foul play associated with the death.

Brown was recently the focus of a TBI investigation into allegations of fraud, theft, and official misconduct related to his employment with both the town of Gates and the Lauderdale County School System. That investigation has also prompted municipal and county investigative audits of the respective payroll records of Brown from the town of Gates and the Lauderdale County Schools, by the state of Tennessee Comptroller's Office.

I sure do hate to hear that. I hope he knew Jesus. We must turn to Jesus with all of our problems, because satan is tricking folks up and many people will fall because of his tricks and schemes. God bless!!!

To the family of Marvin Brown. My Mother worked with Marvin and she always had nice stories to tell about there days at work. This was back in 2003 when he worked at Marvin Doors and Windows. My mother got very ill and we were told she would die. She had a stroke and could not move, speak. We were just waiting and my aunt told me about Marvin and her being so close so I called him at work and he came over to her house to see her. He stood by her bedside and held her hand and talked to her. He came into the kitchen where the family was and sat at the table with us as we talked about her. I turn and looked at her and she raised her hand. Marvin jumped up and rushed to her side and held her hand. This was the most beautiful site I had every seen. I will never forget him. He was very good to me and a long time fiend to my Mother. For that I will always remember him. He was a good man. I know he knew god and I hope and pray that he meets my Mother again. I am so sorry for your loss. Remember someone in Florida is thinking of all of you. Melody Roberts
