Ward Hanson Powers, 88, of Winchester, Ky. husband of Florence Lawson Powers for 68 years, passed away Wednesday April 28, at his home.
He was born February 18, 1922, in Warren County, Pennsylvania, to the late C. Eugene and Edith Hansen Powers.
He began his career at GTE Sylvania in 1951 and retired as plant manager in 1990, he was a United States Air Force veteran and flew 31 missions over Germany and was a member of the eighth Air Force during WWII, he graduated from Penn State in 1951, was a Kentucky Colonel, and former member of the Winchester Country Club and the Elks Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Alan Powers of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Kenneth (Denise) Powers of Dyersburg, Tenn., four daughters and sons-in-law, Janine (Denzil) Cole of Irvine, Barbara (Stan) Anderson of Halls, Tenn., Susan (Bill) Nichols of Lexington, and Leslie (Wendell) Burns of Dyersburg, Tenn., two sisters and brother-in-law, Helen Eubanks of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Betty (Joe) Tomchick of Huntington Beach, Ca. 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 1st from 1-4 p.m. at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home 289 S. Main St. Winchester, Ky. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Corry, Pennsylvania.
