J. W. Cook was born in Dyer County, on March 25, 1925 to Johnnie Herd Cook and Simon Samuel Cook.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Cook of Memphis, and Margret Alexander of Huntingdon; three brothers, Nugin Cook of Dyersburg, Boyd Cook of Dyersburg, and Will Cook of Big Sandy.

He is survived by a brother, Auther Coley Cook of Dyersburg; a son Charles T. Cook of McKenzie; and three daughters, Ella Jean Turner of Trenton, Vivian Martin and Nicky Lynch, both of Bradford; eight grandchildren, Brad Cook, Brent Cook, Brandon Coffman, Britney Chandler, Caitlin Cook, Dakota Cook, Benjamin Cook, and Joesph Lynch; and by two great grandchildren, Hannah and Chloe Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations by made to Hospice of West Tennessee.


J.W. Flowers, 82, of Dyer, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Gibson County General Hospital in Trenton.

He was retired owner/manager of US Cable TV and a member of Bells Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Walker officiating. Burial will be in Yorkville Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Dew Flowers of Dyer; three daughters, Lorrie Springer of Madisonville, Ky., Debra Bolin (David) of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Julia Flowers of Trenton; a sister, Helen Featherston of Bardwell, Ky.; two brothers, Bill Flowers of Trenton and Jerry Flowers of Dyer; four grandchildren, Lainie Springer of West Park, NY, David Springer of Nashville and Jonathan Forrest and Justin Forrest, both of Trenton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Taylor Flowers and Ivy Jones Flowers; a sister, Raye Vickery; and a brother Robert "Son" Flowers.

Pallbearers will be Wylie Hollis, Kenny Flowers, Johnny Cowan, Jonathan Forrest, Justin Forrest and David Springer. Honorary pallbearer will be Bobby Seals.

The family request that any memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Center, P.O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

James B. "Country Plumber" Kilzer Jr., 84, of Newbern, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his residence.

He was a country plumber, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Mount Tirzah Baptist Church.

Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern.

The family will receive visitors at 5:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Kilzer of Newbern; three daughters, Gail Lee of Cordova, Elisa Mathis of Newbern and Nan Singleton of Harlingen, Texas; a son, Danny Kilzer of Newbern; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Jeffery Kilzer, Cal Kilzer and Benny "B.J." Kilzer; his parents, Pearl Lytle Kilzer and James B. Kilzer Sr.; a sister, Dorothy Ripley; and a brother, Robert Kilzer.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Aaron Jones, Dustin Wayne Jenner, Aaron Evans, Chris Sanders, Willie Cole and James Singleton.

Ruby Lee Noel, 76, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at her residence.

She was a homemaker.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery in Dyersburg.

The family will receive visitors at 4:30-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Boone Noel; four daughters, Elizabeth (Steve) Patterson and Brenda Noel, of RoEllen, Marie Clinard of Newbern and Judy Melton of Millsfield; two sons, Jerry (Laura) Noel and Ricky Noel, of RoEllen; a sister, Hazel Hobbs of Waynesboro; a brother, William Brawley of Milan; 19 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie James Brawley and Myrtle Yarbro Brawley; a daughter-in-law, Shelia Noel; and a son-in-law, Bobby Melton.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Carroll, Troy McCallum, Kevin Fair, Danial Noel, Brian Fair, Chance Noel, Eric Noel and Seth Noel. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Ybarra, Mike Ybarra and Joseph Ybarra.
