Flossie Taylor Boone, 83, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Dyersburg.
She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Halls Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Eldridge officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy A. Rogers of Dyersburg; a son, Billie Joe Boone of Millington; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Boone; a sister, Medie Jones; a half sister, Mary Pearl Olds; five brothers, Jessie Taylor, Norris Taylor, Huston Taylor, Johnnie B. Taylor and Joe Taylor; and a half brother, Lloyd Fitzhugh.
Gladys Elizabeth Jones Yandell, affectionately known as Mama Liz, departed to her heavenly home on July 1, 2010 while residing at Hillcrest North Health Center in Knoxville, TN. Liz grew up in Newbern, TN, the daughter of Jack and Beulah Jones.
She graduated from the University of TN Martin where she was a Campus Scholar, Campus Beauty, and cheerleader. She later graduated from Northeastern Illinois University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Liz married William Edgar Yandell from Jackson, TN. They lived in the Chicago area while Dr. Yandell served several Methodist churches. Liz worked as a Real Estate Agent in Lake Forest, IL. Following her retirement, she resided on Monroe Street in Newbern for twenty years. Left to mourn her passing in addition to her husband are her daughter, Faith Tapp, her husband Gary, granddaughter Kim Webb, grandson in law Brad Webb, and great granddaughter Grace Webb; son Mark Yandell, his wife Melody, granddaughter Taylor and granddaughter Katie Rose; son Kent Yandell, his wife Darlene, grandsons Jack and Scott, granddaughters Laine and Claire.
Mama Liz was a loving mother and grandmother as well as a delightful friend to her friends. She had many interests including reading, music, dancing, movies, sports, and travel. She traveled worldwide with her husband. Bill and Liz played golf, tennis, bowling, and swam. She has camped and hiked all over the United States. UT football and the Bears were her favorites as well as the CUBS.
Liz's memorial services will be held July 25, 2010 at 5:00 PM at Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN with Senior Pastor Rev. Andy Ferguson officiating; August 28th at 10:30 AM at Grace United Methodist Church in Lake Bluff, IL with Rev. Yandell officiating. Her graveside service will be conducted by her husband, Dr. William Edgar Yandell and will be held in Newbern, TN.
