DPD police chief warns motorists of speeding in school zones

Thursday, July 29, 2010
"Very little tolerance." These are the words used by Dyersburg Police Chief Art Heun to describe what motorists can expect if they are caught speeding through school zones within the city limits.

Dyersburg City Schools started their school year today and Heun said Dyersburg police officers would be out monitoring the school zones in an effort to protect students.

From August of 2003 through May of 2009, the Tennessee Department of Safety has recorded 19 fatal traffic crashes occurring in school zones in the state. Four of those occurred during the 2008-2009 school year. Also, from 2003 to 2009 there were 2,074 injuries from traffic accidents within Tennessee school zones.

"Very little" is too much.

Even if the officer writes a ticket, most people will get out of paying their ticket because they know somebody in law enforcement or in the court system. This is a load of crap. If someone is guilty, they should be required to pay their fines.
