Gene Woods, 55, of Buchanan, formerly of Dyersburg, died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was a painter for Reynolds Striping Company, a member of Lenox Baptist Church, an avid fisherman, enjoyed participating in Bar-B-Que cook-offs and a U.S. Army veteran.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Halliburton officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Woods of Buchanan; a daughter, Gena Woods Lee of Savannah; a son, Ross Woods of Dyersburg; a step-daughter, Stephanie Guthrie of Oklahoma; a step-son, Phillip Barton of Dyersburg; his mother, Bettie Sue Woods of Newbern; two sisters, Gale Warren of Dresden and Joan Wadley of Columbia; two brothers, Dale Woods of Bruceville and Roger Woods of Newbern; a grandchild, Lexi Lee; and five step-grandchildren, Jessica Guthrie, Elizabeth Guthrie, Michael Guthrie, Cooper Barton and Brooklynn Barton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Woods.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Jones, Lewis Cook, Bobby Rushing, Joe Warmath, Robin Wadley, Gary Essary, Ronnie Robinson and Don Barker.
