James Harold Brooks of Dyersburg, TN went home to be with his Lord on November 14, 2010.

He was born in the Bobwire Community near Bogota, TN on October 11, 1928, to the late Earl Brooks and Annie Lee Cooper Brooks. He served in the U.S. Army in the late 1940's before marrying his wife of 61 years, Earline Hood.

Harold farmed until he went to work at GTE Sylvania in the late 1960's, and after Sylvania closed he operated the Greyhound Bus Station until his retirement.

He was a member of Lenox Baptist Church at his death and for many years served as Training Union Director at Miston Baptist Church.

Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Jim) Edgin, and sons, Randy (Connie) Brooks, David (Kay) Brooks, Billy Gene (Ann) Brooks, Ronnie (Joyce) Brooks, Ricky (Pam) Brooks, Kevin Brooks, twenty grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Estelle Long, Martha Brooks and Louise Brooks.

Pall Bearers will be grandsons, Eric Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Ben Brooks, Jonathan Brooks, Ricky Wayne Brooks, Derrick Brooks, and Beau Brooks, Chad Edgin will be an honorary Pall Bearer.

Visitation will be, Tuesday, November 16, 2010, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010, in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Rudy Ring, Billy Brooks and Jimmy Chandler officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.


Lila Cook Cope, 77, of Memphis, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010.

She was raised in Dyersburg and after moving to Memphis she worked in the accounting office of Proctor & Gamble/Buckeye for a number of years. She was a member of East Hill Baptist Church in Bartlett. Lila was a Godly Christian mother, grandmother, and friend to all.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 11a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Cope, a son Danny Cook, and her parents Carl and Maybelle Bartlett Lipscomb. She leaves a daughter Diane Wright; a stepdaughter, Joyce Simmons a stepson Wayne Cope, three granddaughters Stacie Wright Byard, Pamela Wright, Karen Wright; and a great-granddaughter Kayla Arnold.

Mrs. Dorothy Kirby Gaines, 83, of Cordova, TN formerly of Dyersburg died Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Memphis Jewish Home in Cordova. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dyersburg. She lived in Dyersburg for over 40 years where she was owner of Gaines Commercial Cleaning Service.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Dyersburg officiated by Reverend Raymond Boston, Reverend Grant Gaines and Dr. Steve Gaines. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery led by Dr. Bob Agee. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Gaines family will receive visitors from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17th at the funeral home and beginning at 11:30 a.m. until service time Thursday, November 18th at the church.

Pallbearers will be Charles Yates, Charles Allen, Gary Douglas, Grant Gaines, Ryan Wingo and Gentry Hill.

Survivors include 2 sons, Ed Gaines and wife Debbie of Raleigh, NC and Steve Gaines and wife Donna of Cordova, 5 grandchildren, Grant Gaines, Lindsey Gaines Wingo, Allison Gaines Hill, Bethany Gaines, Kate Gaines Frost and 2 great-grandchildren, Alivia and Weston Gaines.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Edgar L. Gaines, and her parents, Archie Leonard and Katie Ethel Douglas Kirby, and 6 siblings.

The Gaines family requests memorials be directed to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 220 Masonic St., Dyersburg, TN 38024.

Pauline Sanders Seaman, 77, of Dyersburg, died Monday, November 15, 2010 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

She was a retired hostess at Hardee's, member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, member of Dyer County Newcomers Club for many years, and a member of Young at Heart Club.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Lynn King officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery in Friendship.

The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Harold E. Seaman of Dyersburg; two sons, Gregory H. Seaman of Melbourne, FL. and Mark W. Seaman of Owensboro, KY.; two sisters, Barbara Richardson of Dyersburg and Sharon McAllister of Halls; one brother, Glenn Sanders of Dyersburg; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin S. Seaman; and her parents, Johnny and Mary Green Sanders.

Pallbearers will be Gregory Seaman, Ryan Seaman, Kyle Lippard, Daniel Floyd, Glen Thompson and Jon Richardson. Honorary pallbearer will be Derek Seaman.

The family requests that memorials may be directed to Hillcrest Baptist Church.


Bertha Sandlin, 91, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at Maple Ridge Assisted Living Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Dyersburg Funeral Home.
