L.D. Dorse, 66, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired employee for the State of Tennessee.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Bo Kindle officiating. Burial will be in Halls Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 2-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his two sisters, Eva Shepperson and Maxine Wicker, both of Dyersburg; and two brothers, Sammy Dorse of Union City and Dewayne Dorse of Dyersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Emma Long Dorse.


Memorial services for William Franklin Gourley, 64, of Friendship, will be at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 9, 2010 at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy McElyea and Rev. John Kilzer officiating. Visitation will be from 2-3PM at the church.

Mr. Gourley passed away Thursday, January 6, 2010 at Highlands of Dyersburg. He was born in Crockett County son of the late James Gourley and Mary Sue Woods Gourley who survives. He was a retired Industrial Salesman and a former member of the TN National Guard. He was educated in the Crockett County Schools and attended Lambuth University and was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church. He also leaves his daughter, Monica Gourley Allen (Jeremy) of Medina; brothers, Larry Gourley (Susan) of Friendship, Thomas Gourley (Nina) of Dyersburg and a granddaughter, Camryn Grace Allen.

Memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society, 1378 Union Ave., Memphis, TN 38104.


Daphine O. Smith, 72, of Dyersburg, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

She was a hairdresser.

Services were Saturday at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Halliburton officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern.

Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Smith of Dyersburg; two daughters, Robin Moore and Marida Martin, both of Dyersburg; a son, Craig Cogdell of Newbern; four grandchildren, Josh Moore of Dyersburg, Steven Cogdell of Newbern, Emily Rodenhouser of El Paso, Texas, and Carrie Englehart of Caruthersville, Mo.; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Dodd Hendren.

Philip Williams, 66, of Newbern, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

He was owner of Williams Mowing.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Scherffius and Bro. John Morris officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki Williams of Newbern; two sons, Drew Williams (Beth) and Kyle Williams (Ali Read), both of Newbern; and three brothers, Jim Nelson Williams and Leon Williams, both of Newbern, and Talton Williams of Jacksonville, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Tommie Waldron Williams; and a brother, Russell Williams.

Pallbearers will be Danny Carpenter, Jere Carpenter, Pete Carpenter, Billy Rose, Steve McLean, Steve Williams, Todd Williams and Richard Glendowne. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Allen, Charles Earl Peevyhouse, Travis Robertson, Joe Richardson, Larry Carter, Bobby Stewart, Robert Sharp and Elbert Petty.

The family requests that memorials be made to Glendale Church of Christ, 6739 Lanesferry Road, Newbern, TN 38059.

Sue Walton Williams of Newbern died Saturday at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Ala.
