Emma Ruth (Serratt) Jackson, 79, of Niles, Mich., passed away at Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in South Bend, on Wednesday, February 9, 2011.

Emma was born on February 26, 1931 to the late Lon and Alice (Viar) Serratt in Dyersburg, Tennessee. She was one of eight children in the Serratt household.

Emma wed Walter Jackson at a ceremony on December 22, 1945 in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Together they had seven children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, daughter Laura Jackson, son Edward Jackson, brother George Serratt and sisters Dora Simpson and Martha Essary.

Emma is survived by her children Michael Jackson of Mishawaka, Indiana, Debra Luke of Dewy, Oklahoma, Ruth Bierle of Niles, Michigan, Walter (Dee) Jackson of Niles, Conrad (Betty) Jackson of New Burn, Tehhessee, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, brothers Walter (Phyllis) Serratt of Dowagiac, Michigan, Nathan (Cindy) Serratt of Kankakee, Illinois, Lonnie (Peggy) Serratt of Dresden, Tennessee and sister Peggy Regan of Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Emma has been cremated and a memorial service will take place in the spring.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, both of Niles.

Jerre Franklin Johnson, 68, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired laborer and a US Army veteran serving in Vietnam.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with Mr. Jerry Leach officiating.

Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Johnson Simpson and Becky Fuller, both of McKenzie; a son, Jerre F. Johnson Jr. of Deltona, Fla.; a sister, Wilda Gail Mensinger of Auburn, Ga.; a brother, James Lewis Johnson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.D. Johnson and Margaret Jones Johnson.
