Rosa Lee Clanton, 68, of Newbern, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at Northbrooke Nursing Home in Jackson.

She was a homemaker, self-employed accountant and Avon representative, a member of Newbern Cumberland Presbyterian Church, member of Newbern Women's Club for 20 years, Friend of the Newbern Library and former Girl Scout leader.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Atkins Cemetery in Newbern with the Rev. George Butler officiating.

The family will receive visitors from noon-1:30 p.m. at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Norman O. Clanton of Newbern; a daughter, Dawn Haynie and husband, Tracy, of Jackson; a stepdaughter, Diana Owens of Sparks, Md.; two stepsons, Norman Earl Clanton and Stephen Michael Clanton, both of Dyersburg; a sister, Jane Vires of Yorkville; a brother, Vergil Vires of Pinson; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Dewitt Crooks; and her stepfather and mother, L.C. and Leila Mae Vires.

Richard "Noel" Sherrod, 87 of Halls, TN, died Thursday in the Covington Care Center, Covington, TN.

Born in Brownsville, TN, he was the son of the late Aubrey Noel and the late Maggie Mae "Jack"(Briley) Sherrod. Mr. Sherrod married Margarett Heathcott Nov. 20, 2004. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.

He was a former owner of the Halls Funeral Home from 1984 until 2006. It was here where he finished a 62-year career in funeral service as a Funeral Director/ Mortician.

Mr. Sherrod was a member of Halls Church of Christ, a former Halls Fire Chief, and former Halls Alderman for 12 years, and Grand Marshall of the Halls Christmas Parade from its inaugural year in 1976 until 2009, as well as a Tennessee Colonel.

Survived by his wife: Margarett Heathcott (Sherrod) two daughters: Noel-Anne Sherrod of Covington, TN, Christi Anna Curtis of Ripley, TN;

Brother of one sister: Mary Hawks of Jackson, TN;

Stepson, Roy Cook, III of Halls, TN; stepdaughter, Michelle Cook of Hernando, MS; stepdaughter, Margaret "Gaye" Gardner Wright of Halls, TN; granddaughter, Blaire Graham of Booneville, MS; granddaughter, Chrystal York of Ripley, TN; grandson, Nick Curtis of Ripley, TN; granddaughter, Katie Curtis of Memphis, TN; great-grandson, Ryan Sherrod York of Ripley, TN; great-grandson, Calvin Jacob York of Ripley, TN.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Burichka Sherrod; a sister, Tootsie Cobb.

Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Halls Funeral Home, 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN.

Interment will be Sunday in Halls Cemetery, Halls.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
