Charlene Essary, 84, of Newbern, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center.

She was Baptist.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with Rev. John Welch officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern.

The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include cousins, Bettie Sue Hartsfield and Rad Crenshaw, both of Newbern, Phila Sue Gatlin and Lytle Hartsfield, both of Dyersburg and Letha Harper of Southaven, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Zelmar and Vera Williams Essary.

Cousins will serve as pallbearers.

Roy Elbert Harrison, 74 of Halls, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Halls Funeral Home.


James M. Motley, 75, of Friendship, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

He was a retired Command Sgt. Major with U.S. Army, where he served for 21 years, served two tours in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star Medal, member of Fowlkes Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, member of Hess Lodge #93, worked with the Salvation Army, former Chief Deputy for the Dyer County Sheriff's Department, ROTC instructor at Central Michigan University and member of the Retiree Council of Fort Campbell, KY.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Buckley officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday with Masonic Services at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie Motley of Friendship; a daughter, Pam Reasons and husband, Jeff, of Newbern; two sons, Michael Motley of Dyersburg and Scott Motley and wife, Laura, of Collierville; two sisters, Vida Hutchison of Hendersonville and Sue Youngblood of Woodbury; three brothers, Gerald Motley and Terry Motley, both of Woodbury and Robert Motley of Scottsburg, IN.; and two grandchildren, Bradley Childress and wife, Asia, and Tyler Childress, all of Dyersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Comer and Anna Hall Motley.

Members of the U.S. Army will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gurley Sunday School Class and Deacons of the church.


Everette Thomas "Tommy" Vaughan, 74, resident of the RoEllen Community, retired Owner/Operator of ANCO Transmissions in Dyersburg for over 30 years and husband of Vivian Kee Vaughan died August 2, 2011 at the Jackson-Madison General Hospital.

Services will be at 2 PM Friday at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville, TN with a visitation 2 hours before services. Interment will be private.

A Christian and native of Fayette County, TN, Mr. Vaughan enjoyed grilling, fishing, hunting and nature. In addition to his wife of over 50 years, Mr. Vaughan also leaves his son, Rocky T. Vaughan of Newbern; his sisters, Ann Coleman and Betty Boschert, both of Memphis; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Randall L. Vaughan and Ricky Lewis Vaughan.


Max Bradley, 79, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

Leon Meadows, 89, of the Unionville community, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 in Unionville.
