James Willis Barker, 84, died Friday, August 19, 2011, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

He was a resident of Oakwood Community Living Center, a member of Fort Hudson Baptist Church and a retired brick mason.

He was a US Army veteran, serving in World War II.

Johnson-Williams Funeral Home, Newbern, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 21 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Johnson-Williams.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Johnson-Williams at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 22, with Rev. Don Layman and Rev. Tom Pirtle officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by three sisters, Shirley Hatch, Ruby Earp and Wilma (Jerry) Patton, all of Dyersburg, one brother, Marshall (Eulene) Barker of Hornbeak, four daughters, Sharon Karr of Dyersburg, Gwen (Charles) Griffin of Murfreesboro, TN, Teresa (David) Olson of Sutherlin, OR and Tina Barker of Conroe, TX, three sons, Mike Barker of Phoenix, AZ, Bill Barker and Gary Barker of Conroe, TX, two step-daughters, Faye Burse and Lisa Peery of Dyersburg, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren and 6 great-step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Graple Pauline Barker, his parents, W.M. and Mary Ebilee Hensley Barker, a sister, Mary Helen Harris, a brother R.L. Barker, a stepson, Randy Fitts and a grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Patton, Paul Patton, Ricky Hatch, Charles Ozment, Jeff Layman and Ralph Pease.


Funeral services for Mr. Ted Mack Cartwright, age 55, were held at noon Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo. He was laid to rest at Liberty Church in Bethel Springs with his parents and two brothers.

Mr. Cartwright went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 after battling a long illness. He was a loving husband, father, Pa-pa and friend. Ted loved his family. He was employed at ABB in Alamo. Throughout his life he was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. Ted loved Jesus and tried to do his best to live life as Jesus wants us to. He will be deeply missed.

Mr. Cartwright was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Eugene and Annie Rea Cartwright; brothers, Everett, Wayne and Roger Cartwright.

Surviving relatives include his beloved wife, Debbie Cartwright; sons, Adam Cartwright of Friendship, Sgt. David Juarez of Crockett Mills; daughters, Gentry Brittian and husband Jake of Jackson, Megan Hickman and husband Kirk of Dyersburg; grandchildren, Avery Kate Hickman, Charlie Elizabeth Brittian, Bailey Jade Brittian and two expected grandbabies; brother, Edward Cartwright of Millington; sisters, Betty Clark and husband Mark of Ripley, Judy McCarthy and husband Jim of Ripley; special niece, Kim Lax; sister-in-law, Ann Marrel; many nieces and nephews.

Minister for the service was Bro. Mark McMinn. Pallbearers were Andy Mannond, Kenny Holland, Terry Marris, Bro. Mike Glidewell and Bro. Dwight Arnold. Honorary pallbearers were Sgt. David J. Juarez and Adam Cartwright.


Mr. J. B. Jones, 65, of Tiptonville, TN formerly of Dyersburg, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at his residence in Tiptonville. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Evansville Free Holiness Church.

Graveside services were held at 1:00 pm, Friday, August 19, 2011 at Greenhill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Halls. Curry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Chris Eison of Dyersburg; two sons, Denton Jones and Derek Jones both of Dyersburg; a brother, Hubert "Curly" Jones Jr. of Niceville, Fl; four grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Medie Taylor Jones.

Pallbearers were Coby Kimbrell, Ronnie Hayes, Jason Dean, Joseph Rogers, Cory Moody, Cody Roberts, Eric Williams James Taylor, Billy Jack Goad.

Dorothy Mae Fuqua, 96, of Union City, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at her residence.

Charles Alton Lumley Sr., 79, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at Oakwood Heritage Nursing Center in Taylor, Mich.

Art Reyes, 62, of Ripley, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 in Memphis.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Grace Cemetery near Ripley. Halls Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


E.M. Voss Jr., 95, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Halls Funeral Home.
