Ray Jenkins, 88, of Trimble, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Sumner County Regional Medical Center in Gallatin.

He was the retired owner of Jenkins Food Market in Trimble, a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II along with four of his brothers, a member of Cool Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and former member of the American Legion.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with Allison Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Cool Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Jenkins Norsworthy and husband David of Newbern, and Peggy Jenkins Griffin and husband Perry of Gallatin; four grandchildren, Kim Norsworthy Johnson and husband Joey of Trimble, Melanie Kemp Smith and husband Don of Cottontown, Jonathan Kemp and wife Heather of Smyrna, and Nicole Coulston of Brownsville; and six great-grandchildren, Emily Johnson of Trimble, Meagan Smith of Cottontown, Reece McClanahan of Smyrna, Katlin Smith of Cottontown, Nick Kemp of Smyrna and Tyler Smith of Cottontown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche M. Jenkins; his parents, Thomas S. and Mattie Lou Bradford Jenkins; six brothers; four sisters; and a granddaughter, Laura Griffin.

Pallbearers will be Mike Minton, Chris Minton, Siegal Jackson, Elvis Sturdivant, Bruce Pope, Bryan Pope, Mike Pruitt and Mickey Robertson.

Sular Hudson Lumpkin, 89, of Dyersburg, formerly of Corinth, Miss., died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 at Regional Hospital in Jackson.

She was a retired schoolteacher for the City of Corinth, Miss. School

System after 38 years, a graduate of Lane College with a degree in elementary education and was a member of Salters Chapel A.M.E. Church in Dyersburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salters Chapel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Cecil Maddox and Pastor Walter Perkins Jr. officiating. H.H. Hudson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive visitors at 6-8 p.m. today at Patterson Memorial Chapel in Corinth, Miss.

Survivors include a son, Willie Mitchell Lumpkin Jr.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Mitchell Lumpkin Sr.; her parents, Sular Myles Hudson and H.H. Hudson Sr.; two sisters, Janie May Hudson Jamison and Katherine Hudson Tucker; and two brothers, H.H. Hudson Jr. and George W. Hudson.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Jackson, Thomas Maxwell, Charles Ingram, Clifford Fowlkes, Sherwin Mays and Gary Bunkley. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Omega Psy Phi Gamma Iota Iota Chapter-Dyersburg.


Margarita Casanova Nieves, 77, of Antioch, Tenn., died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Roper and the Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.

The family will receive visitors Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Mendez of Bronx, N.Y., and Daisy Quinones of Roseville, Calif.; four sons, Edwin Figueroa of Orlando, Fla., Generoso Cruz and Miguel Cruz, both of Dyersburg, and German Cruz of San Juan, Puerto Rico; a sister, Felicita Garcia of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; two brothers, Cheo Garcia of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and Vitin Garcia of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico; 23 grandchildren and a host of great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Casanova and Honoria Nieves Casanova.

Pallbearers will be Edwin Figueroa, Miguel Cruz Sr., German Cruz, David Tate, Dalton Cruz, Miguel Cruz Jr. and Edwin Cruz.


Margaret Smith Reed, 61, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011 at Regional Hospital in Jackson.

Services will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Dyersburg. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dyersburg. H.H. Hudson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive visitors at 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 at the Word of Faith Baptist Church in Dyersburg.

Survivors include three daughters, Regina Jackson, Marsha Smith and Gennifer Smith, all of Dyersburg; a son, Kenneth Smith of Dyersburg; two sisters, Brenda McPhearson and Barbara Smith, both of Dyersburg; three brothers, Sammy D. Smith of Dyersburg, Marshall L. Smith and John L. Smith, both of Dyersburg; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.


Alton Earl Tinkle, 60, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at his residence.

He was a retired truck driver and a member of Northside Church of Jesus Christ.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Northside Church of Jesus Christ with the Rev. Ray Winstead officiating. Burial will be in Bellevernon Cemetery in Friendship. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Bonita Griffin Tinkle of Dyersburg; three daughters, Angela Tinkle, Rhonda Tinkle Dennis and Dena Tinkle Clark, all of Dyersburg; a son, Brian Myles of Gates; his mother, Dimple Quinn and Daddy Elbert Quinn; a sister, Arlene Cantrell and husband, Jim, of Dyersburg; a brother, Roy Matthew Quinn and wife, Alicia, of Dyersburg; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Earl Tinkle; and a sister, Paulette Tinkle Ray.

Pallbearers will be Brian Myles, Darrin Hall, Austin Dennis, Zachary Dennis, Briar Clark, Dylan Griffin. Honorary pallbearers will be David O'Dell and Stan Marsh.


Robert Dunevant, 51, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at Regional Hospital of Jackson.

Services are incomplete and will be announced later by Curry Funeral Home.


Christine Evans of Newbern died Thursday at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
