Swift

Dyer County Sheriff's investigators spent another day combing over information in an effort to find Karen Johnson Swift, who has been missing since Sunday.

Investigators and Sheriff Jeff Box were out searching for any evidence in the Swift case until 4:30 a.m. on Thursday and reconvened later to go over the information they have.

"It's been another day of searching and recovering things that could be helpful later," said Box. "We've been collecting potential evidence all over the county."

He added they would perform a more intensified multi-agency search for Swift on Friday on both the ground and from the air.

Investigators are also focusing more attention on Swift's timeline before she disappeared and cell phone records. Box stated Swift's cell phone has not been located and when it is called it goes straight to voicemail. He also noted that cell phone records show her phone accessed the Internet sometime on Sunday morning.

"We are still conducting interviews with friends and family members and definitely trying to pinpoint her whereabouts," said Box.

Box is not ruling out foul play at this point in the investigation, but noted there has not been any evidence that would lead them to take the investigation in that direction.

Investigators are still awaiting the results from the TBI crime lab, which Swift's SUV was sent to earlier this week. Other pieces of potential evidence have been collected and Box said they could yield more information after being processed.

"We'll be looking for DNA and fingerprints on any of the items we recovered," said Box.

Swift, a 44-year-old mother of four was last seen early Sunday morning by her husband at their home on Willie Johnson Road after she reportedly returned from a Halloween party. Her white 2004 Nissan Murano was later found on Sunday on Millsfield Highway near the intersection of Harness Road with a flat tire.

Karen Johnson Swift is described as:

Age: 44

Race: White

DOB: 1/25/67

Hair: Blonde

Eyes: Green

Height: 5' 5"

Weight 138 lbs.

Anyone who has had contact with Swift, recalls seeing anyone near her vehicle since her disappearance, or has information regarding her whereabouts is asked to contact the Dyer County Sheriff's Office at 731-285-2802.

  • I thought it was possible to track a cell phone to it's location, but this article has no indication of it. They do it all of the time on the TV shows such as NCIS, CSI, and Law and Order. Any have an answer?

  • This isn't a TV show, this is the real world. The general area of where a moble phone has been can be located based on the towers its signal was sent to or recieved from. This can vary from a few hundred yards to a few miles depending on the location of the towers. If the phone has GPS and the GPS function is active it can be located to within approximately 30 yards. Depending on the make and model of the phone the GPS may or may not stay active when the phone is powered off. Which is probably the case since the phone goes straight to voicemail. If the battery is removed, the GPS will not work.

  • Very humorous, SamM, bet you also wondered why the case has lasted more than one hour, and wondered where the commercials were.

  • Has anybody here noticed how similar this disappearance is to Jacque Waller of Jackson Missouri? Last person to see Jacque was her estranged husband. Her abandoned vehicle was found on I55 with a flat tire. She was a pretty blonde haired woman with 3 small children. Sure hope this isn't a copycat....

  • A cell phone can be tracked to the last location used by pinging. It can be tracked to the closest tower.
