Swift

Dyer County Emergency Management Director James Medling will be assisting the Dyer County Sheriff's Office in organizing search parties for Karen Swift, which will be comprised of volunteer firemen and first responders from the Dyer County fire departments and the Dyer County Rescue Squad.

Medling has currently requested only civilian personnel from the area that are highly familiar with the rugged terrain in the Millsfield area and experienced boaters respond to the Millsfield Fire Dept. on Saturday, Nov. 19, to be briefed on the search details.

All searchers are required to wear reflective vests to protect them from deer hunters, due to the fact that deer season starts on Saturday, Nov. 19. Snake chaps or protective boots are also suggested. Any personnel without a reflective vest will be turned away.

All personnel will meet at the Millsfield Fire Department at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. Any other civilian volunteers that show up with a reflective vest may be restricted to searching the roadways.

  • Dear Hunting does NOT have a priority over the search party, the reflective vests (ie. Bright orange) are neccessary to protect the people who are searching. It is opening day for rifle season, it's kind of a no brainer to wear an orange reflective vest while searching in the woods.

  • Just i expected, People complain when Law Enforcement does not allow citizens to search to prevent contamination of evidence. But now that citizens are allowed to search, Y'all are going to complain about the way they are going about it. I would be willing to bet that only a handfull of citizens show up to help. Only in Dyer Co!!!!!!

  • Its not hard to figure out who did this. When they were having problems around midnight, and we know they were from the text messages Karen sent to her friend. Karen goes to bed around 1.45 am. Then her car is found within 200 yards of their home with a staged flat tire around 5. As the profiler said on Nancy Grace show, that serial killers dont take the body and leave the clothes. And reading what the psychic had to say, it all points to the hus.... Its sad but sure looks that way. God bless the family.

  • Well Dang..... String has cracked the case.... She was at a party at midnight...Accusations without facts is the exact reason why there is trial in america... Surely you got to be first in line for the search party...

  • I think people ought to not jump to conclusions as to who is responsible for her disappearance. Instead I think people should be as supportive as they can be to law enforcement and this woman's kids. Nobody knows who did this yet. This is not an every day occurrence in Dyer Co. and I am sure that the law wants to solve this as quickly as possible so that it doesn't become a more frequent occurrence. People just need to keep their eyes and ears open, especially if they notice anything strange on their land, and report anything they hear or see to authorities no matter how small they think it is. Unless her body is found nobody should give up hope she is still alive. It would be rare at this point but it is possible. Look at Jaycee Dugard and those boys that were found in Mo. years after the they were taken. Nobody should give up on the possibility of finding her alive.
