This is the emblem on the back of the jacket the suspect was wearing when she stole the donation jar. DPD Sgt. Jim Joyner said the emblem is quite unique and somebody may be able to recognize it. If you have any information on this case contact Crime Stoppers of Dyer County at 731-285-TIPS or Dyersburg Police Criminal Investigation Division at 731-288-7679.

Dyersburg Police investigators are searching for this suspect who is accused of stealing a donation jar from the Los Portales restaurant on Lake Road that contained money that was supposed to go to cancer research and treatment. The theft took place on Monday around 9:40 p.m. and was caught on surveillance video.
Dyersburg Police investigators are searching for a suspect who was not in a very charitable mood after she stole a donation jar that was supposed to go to help people with cancer. However, she didn't expect her crime would be caught on camera and now investigators are asking for help in identifying her.

The incident was reported to police on Tuesday after employees of the Los Portales Mexican restaurant on Lake Road noticed the donation jar was missing they had set up to go to cancer treatment and research. A review of their video surveillance footage shows a female suspect stealing the jar on Monday, Jan. 9, around 9:40 p.m.

According to DPD Sgt. Jim Joyner, the jar contained between $75 and $90. He says the female came in wearing a gray warm-up suit with a jacket with a unique emblem on the back. She ordered a bag of chips and paid for it with cash. As the cashier went to retrieve her order from the back she stuffed the jar into her pants. The cashier came back and gave her the chips and she walked out the door. Ironically, the suspect came back inside to ask about salsa and the cashier told her it would cost extra. When she came in the second time she was not wearing the hood that had covered part of her face when she was inside the first time and the video was able to capture her likeness.

The suspect is identified as a black female in her early 20s, between 5'6" and 5'7", medium to heavy build, wearing a gray warm-up suit with unique design on the back.

Joyner said they would like to find out the identity of the suspect and is asking for the public's help. If you have any information on this case contact Crime Stoppers of Dyer County at 731-285-TIPS or Dyersburg Police Criminal Investigation Division at 731-288-7679.

Joyner also encourages anybody with any information on any case to call the Dyersburg Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

Um, "hate you..." are you by any chance a pilot??

It takes real low life scum to steal charity donations. She needs to be put under the jail.

@hate you are still here: It would have been wrong for anyone to steal the money but you are taking advantage of this opportunity to use a broad brush to paint all people of color and punish them all for the crimes of a few.

You like highlighting the fact that she was black and committed a crime. What about the fact that 3 out of 5 of Dyersburg's most wanted are white? You are the type of person who would be so focused and afraid of the black person in the room you wouldn't notice the white meth head stealing you blind getting ready to stab you in the back.

Is this what your miserable life has become? The best you can do with your life is hover around the State Gazette's website and hope there's a chance where you can spew your pablum and racial rhetoric and feel like you've accomplished something? The only thing you accomplish is highlighting your ignorance and bigotry.

Oh by the way I'm probably whiter than you are but the difference is I have an education and I don't need to make up for a failed wasted life by spewing hate.

You are not part of the solution. You epitomize the problem. You are just another keyboard tough guy who would never have the courage to make the same statements to someones face. Grow up...

It does not matter either way if you are white or black and steal. Everybody knows stealing is wrong but somehow when you steal from the poor, needy, or sick it just seems in someway worse. I hope some honest person turns her in and she has to pay the money back and do public service work for the American Cancer Society and see what real people in need look like.

"Salsa is extra? No problem...let em get some change outta my cash jar..."

Don't leave the jar at the counter and ask customers if they would like to round up their bill to help someone. Don't invite opportunity.

Typical product of government handouts. I bet this woman hasn't worked a day in her life. She has been living off welfare since the day she was born. She probably thinks society owed her the jar of money.

Even if she is caught nothing will happen to her. One of our fine liberal judges will let her off the hook. Bedsides it is the white mans fault she had to steal to support her drug habit.

She probably thinks it's her share of reparations she's owed...

Aapears that some fat person put on a lot of black makeup and knew that every one wuold think she is black and a jar of change was what was promised by Obama ya 'no

She didn't have a choice in the matter. Society set her up for failure. She needed the money after she sold her food stamps for drugs and she had already spent her welfare check for the month. All of you people make fun of her for being on welfare and foodstamps her whole life. You're jealous because she is milking the system and you're not.

I can't believe anyone would blame the restaurant for putting the jar on the counter. One hundred percent of the blame lies with the thief anytime something is stolen. I guess since we're heading down this socialist road to spreading the wealth we might as well spread the blame around too.

Now THIS is truly a dumb criminal!! This fool CAME BACK...for salsa AFTER stealing a Charity Jar?!? What a freaking idiot! It shouldn't be hard to catch this fool!

-- Posted by KimLB on Sat, Jan 14, 2012, at 12:13 PM

Ok lets get real here. When people start to steal from a charity there is a deeper problem here.Does not matter if they are black, white ,green or purple. The fact is people are stealing from a charity, what happened to the morals? We can blame it on welfare, food stamps or handouts. People wake up, when are we going to see the real issue that we face?
