Barbara Ann Bowman, 84, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center.

She was a former registered nurse, member of First United Methodist Church, member of Eastern Star, Cub Scout Den Mother and assisted her husband when he was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. She was a graduate of Holy Name of Jesus Hospital School of Nursing in Gadsden, AL and a Patron of the Old Kia Kima Preservation Association, located in Hardy, AR, which provides free camp experience for youth groups.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Melissa A. Cooper and the Rev. Robert Craig officiating. Burial will be in West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery in Memphis.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her son, Mike Bowman and wife, Jenny, of Dyersburg; and a granddaughter, Rev. Melissa A. Cooper and husband, Will, of Fruitland Park, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, H.L. Bowman; and her parents, Bernard and Margaret Emma Glenn Morton.

Mary Evelyn Allmon Carnell, 78, of Newbern, passed away on March 21, 2012, at her daughter's residence. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM, Friday, March 23, 2012 at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Bro. Perry Grills.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy "Sonny" Strawn, Danny Allmon, Terry Allmon, Dan Post, Benson Hulme and Robert Klutts. Honorary Pallbearers include grandson-in-laws John Young, Garret Flagg, Abram Flansburg, and grandson John-Hayden Higgins. Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Luke Carnell; a son Daryl Carnell (Laura) and their children Malissa Flagg and Emily Young; another son, Gerald Carnell, and his children Ashley Flansburg and Alicia Carnell; a daughter, Carol Higgins (Terry) and their children Hayley Higgins and John-Hayden Higgins. Four great-granddaughters, Rozelin Flansburg, Lilly Flagg, Lynlee Young, and Halle Flagg.

Mary was born in Yorkville, Tennessee on June 27, 1933. She was the youngest child born into a large, and affable family. Her parents were Annie and Ned, two sisters, Inez and Sweet, and six brothers: Mitchell, Woodrow, Everett, Ewen, Glenn, and Buddy; all of whom proceeded her in death. Mary stayed at home with her children until her youngest child was nearly grown. At that point she began working at the Newbern Library and later the Elderly Nutrition Program. She attended Church Grove First United Methodist Church.

Mary was an immaculate and fastidious person in her appearance, home, and in all of her endeavors. She was a beautiful, loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 2012 from 1:00 PM-2:30 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.


Welton "Gene" Hood, 76, of Trenton, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at his residence.

He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Trenton Mills, member of Branham Tabernacle Church and an U.S. Air Force Veteran.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his three daughters, Connie Putman and husband, Dale, Michelle Utley and husband, Bill, and Samantha Henry and husband, James Roy, all of Trenton; a sister, Earline Brooks of Dyersburg; a brother, Bill Hood of Oak Brook, IL; five grandchildren, Jay Hooper, Geoffrey Utley, Susan Hooper, Emily Putman and Jordan Henry; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carneice Ogden Hood; his parents, Silas and Georgia Corder Hood; a sister, Dolly Birholtz; and two brothers, Ozell Hood and Clifford Hood.

Pallbearers will be Dale Putman, Jay Hooper, Bill Utley, Geoffrey Utley, James Roy Henry and Sam Vestal.

Dave Chatwood, 90, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Cosmopolitan Funeral Services.


Wymond Junior Reynolds, 78, of Memphis, died Thursday, March 22, 2012.

Services will be held at Halls Funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m.
