David "Potts" Sawyer, 57 of Newbern, Tennessee died on Monday, April 16, 2012, at his residence in Newbern.
Born Thursday, July 29, 1954, he was the son of the late James Morris Sawyer and the late Mary Lucille Canada Sawyer.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. The times that he cherished the most were the times that he shared with his family. He was affectionately called "Potts," the name that was given to him by his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for always thinking and doing for others. Potts could be seen just about every morning with weather permitting in the golf cart with his grandchildren making their usual stops around Newbern.
He was a retired employee of Goodyear and was given the name of "Buzz" by his co-workers. Mr. Sawyer was a member of the Newbern First United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be held 7:00 PM, Friday, April 20, 2012 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. Gus Lohrum and Patrick Williams. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00-7:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He leaves the following to cherish his memory: wife, Janette Carol Sawyer of Newbern; two daughters Sandy Carol Peevyhouse and her husband Brian Scott Peevyhouse of Newbern, and Lacy Falon Maners and her husband Bobby Clint Maners of Medina, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Gannon Payne Peevyhouse of Newbern, Peyton Hooper Maners of Medina, Tennessee, Moxon Finch Peevyhouse of Newbern, and Major Falon Peevyhouse of Newbern. Other survivors are six sisters, Sue Fair and Catherine Mashburn of Dyersburg, Margaret Willis and Katie Garret of Newbern, Peggy Dilbeck and Etta Boswell of Indiana; two brothers, Olan Sawyer and Kenneth Sawyer, both of Dyersburg.

The Rev. William Leon Mays, 70, of Newbern, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Friday in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
