Prentiss Johnson, 84, of the Bogota Community, died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at his residence. He was a member of Broadmoor Church of Christ, and a World War II Veteran where he served in France and Germany as a platoon sergeant. Mr. Johnson served on the Board of Directors at Forked Deer Electric from 1969 until present and served 12 years on the ASC community committee. He was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier.

Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 at Broadmoor Church of Christ with Brother Roy Sharp and Brother Terry Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.

The Johnson family will receive visitors Sunday, April 22 from 5--8 p.m. at the funeral home and Monday, April 23 from noon until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be directors of Forked Deer Electric, Harold Willis, Mike Harris, Keith Warren, Lynn Burnett, Jerry Don Summar and Bret Carmack. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Nichols, Scott Nichols, Donald Copeland, Purvis Lay and David Rhoads, posthumous.

Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Gracie Johnson of the Bogota Community, 2 sisters Faye Burkeen (Marvin) of Troy, Helen Kinnick (Dan) of Madison Heights, MI, 3 brothers Leaton Johnson (Mary Ruth) and Bobby Johnson (Mae), both of Troy, Thomas Johnson (Pat) of Hornbeak and 1 stepsister Nell Warren of Newbern.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Ola Gertrude Johnson Edwards and his parents James Robert Brant and Minnie Lou Price Johnson.

Mary Martha Cribbs Underwood, 92, of Dyersburg, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at her residence.

She worked 6 years for the Dyer County School System and retired from The Department of Human Services, where she worked for 26 years. She was a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ, graduated as "Best All Around" from Dyersburg High School in 1937 and graduated from Austin Peay College. She had a world of friends and family whom she always kept up with and stayed in contact with.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Burse officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her son, James Edwin "Jim" Underwood of Dyersburg; two daughters, Martha Sherman Underwood of Nashville and Janice Sue Underwood of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren, Eddie Underwood, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Hoover, AL, Susanne Mokros and husband, Chris, of Rosswell, GA and Tim Underwood and wife, Jennifer, of Pulaski, TN; and six great-grandchildren, Ivy Underwood, Mary Grace Underwood, Christopher Mokros, Olivia Mokros, Anna Katherine Underwood and Jack Underwood.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her six caregivers, Lori West, Robin Johnson, Brenda Jackson, Daffney Hernandez, Jessica Lineberry and Megan Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Fowler Underwood; her parents, Bead West and Jesse Hale Cribbs; and a brother, James Howard Cribbs.

Pallbearers will be Joe Johnson, Collin Carpenter, Bobby LaRue, Buddy Hart, Mike Lunsford, Dr. Scott Self and Danny Dedmon. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hart, Neely Pritchett, Bryon Smith, Billy Cole, James Hunt and Bob Klutts.

The family requests that memorials be directed to RoEllen Community Cemetery Fund, 6040 Hwy 104 E, Dyersburg, TN 38024, a charity that was established by Mrs. Underwood.


Imogene Mitchell Bedwell, 93, of Meridian, Miss., formerly of Tiptonville, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian.

Lillie Bolden, 53, of Tiptonville, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at her residence.

Mary Kathryn Forsyth Payne of Memphis, formerly of Dyersburg, died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 23 at Rehoboth Cemetery. Johnson-Williams Funeral Home of Newbern is in charge of arrangements.


Ann Pogue, 81, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
