Joe Morris Cooper, 71, of Halls, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at his residence.
He was a retired postman for the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 40 years in the Dyersburg area and in Clarksdale, MS area, was a school bus driver for Dyer County School System and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He was an U.S. Navy Veteran, where he served on the U.S. Kitty Hawk, he served in the Mississippi National Guard and was members of VFW and the American Legion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathe Ozment officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lanelle Jackson Cooper of Halls; two daughters, Triana Cooper Hudson and husband, Donald "Pete", of Friendship and Denice Cooper Howard and husband, Randy, of Bragg City, MO; three sisters, Bettye Jackson of Halls, Joyce Wilson and husband, Tommy, of Arkansas and Darlene Justice and husband, Larry, of Dyersburg; and five grandchildren, Jonathon Hudson, Joel Hudson, David Hudson, Brandon Walton and Jamiana Walton King.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred Kimbriel Cooper.
Pallbearers will be Stan Welch, Roger Meadows, Allen Meadows, Jeff Hogue, Larry Escue and Stacey Weeks. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathon Hudson, David Hudson, Brandon Walton, Joel Hudson, Tom Burns, Harold McDonald and Johnny Davis.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Building Fund.
