Joe Freeman Reed, 82, of Dyersburg, died Monday, May 28, 2012 at his residence.
He was a retired supervisor for South Central Bell, where he worked for 37 years, member and Deacon of McCullough's Chapel Baptist Church, 1947 graduate of Dyersburg High School; graduated from Nashville Tech in Electrical Engineering and a U.S. Army Veteran.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at McCullough's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Stan Young and Bro. Joe Wright officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Survivors include his daughter, Tanya Reed Roberts of Big Sandy; two sons, Frank Reed of Yorkville and James Reed and wife, Bonnie, of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Robbie Moss and husband, David, of Big Sandy and Penny Reed Rice and husband, Allen, of Dyersburg; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Wilkerson and Allisyn Rice; and a great-great-grandchild, Madison Moss.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Reed; his parents, Judson and Rosie King Reed; four brothers, Moody Reed, Bill Reed, Charlie Reed and Otis Reed; and a great-grandchild, Seth Moss.
Pallbearers will be Herman Reed, Tommy Reed, Robert Reed, Billy Reed, David Reed and Judd Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of McCullough's Chapel Baptist Church.
The family requests that memorials be directed to The Gideons International.
