Peggy Jean Starnes, 79, of Lenox, formerly of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at her residence.

She was a retired factory worker from Sylvania and a member of East Dyersburg Methodist Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Stan Young officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family received visitors from 4:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Joe Starnes of Lenox; two daughters, Donna Smith and husband, Jerry, and Pennie King and husband, Joe, all of Dyersburg; a son, Steve Starnes and wife, Ann, of Lenox; a brother, W.C. "Dub" Byrd of Dyersburg; five grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Skip Starnes, Chris Starnes, Greg Starnes and Chelsey King; and two great-grandchildren, Karlee Nicole Smith and Evan Drake Starnes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John, Sr. and Ollie Whitehead Byrd; a sister, Beatrice Anderson; and two brothers, Virgil Byrd and John Taylor Byrd, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Danny Byrd, Randy Byrd, Jeremy Smith, Skip Starnes, Chris Starnes and Greg Starnes.

Raymond Tharp, 85 of Tiptonville, Tennessee died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Regional Hospital of Jackson in Jackson, Tennessee.

Born Tuesday, May 3, 1927 in Flatwoods, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Albert Tharp and the late Alice Brumley Tharp.

Mr. Tharp was the retired owner of Hornbeak Gravel Company. Prior to owning Hornbeak Gravel Company he and his wife Betty owned an operated the Dairy Queen in Tiptonville for 13 years. Mr. Tharp was a United States Navy Veteran, Mason and member of the Tiptonville Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Mr. Tharp will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 27, 2012 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Bro. Don Reel. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM at the Tiptonville Church of Christ Annex.

Mr. Tharp is survived by two daughters, Jo Hanna Simmons and husband Jimmy of Tiptonville, Tennessee and Phillis Roark and husband Tom of Tiptonville, Tennessee; one grandson, Jason Thomas and his wife Laura of Tiptonville, Tennessee; two great-grandsons, Hunter Thomas and Taylor Thomas both of Tiptonville, Tennessee and two nephews, Wayne Tharp of Newberry, Florida and Edwin Tharp of Fort Myers, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Wiles Tharp and one brother, Alfred Tharp of Newberry, Florida.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Dean, Adam McCoy, Johnny Whitson, Steve Baker, Brent Work, Warren Douglas, Kyle Simmons and Bill Rogers.

Gary Sykes, 57, of Finley passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at his residence.
