Ray Cutcher, 81, of Dyersburg died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. He was a retired Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was also retired security for Murray Guard, Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, Heckethorn Manufacturing and Tyson Foods. Mr. Cutcher was a member of Finley Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mr. Cutcher will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Brother Charlie Halliburton and Reverend Calvin Smith. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive visitors Friday, August 17th from 5:00 -- 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be the US Marine Corps.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jean Farley Cutcher, 2 sons, Butch Cutcher and wife Martha of Munford and Ray L. Cutcher, Jr. of Pikeville, 2 sisters, Evelyn May Mattoni and Josephine Cutcher of Toledo, OH and 1 brother Alfred Cutcher of Toledo, OH, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Norman Cutcher and his parents Amiel Dolphus and Flora Melvetta Druyord Cutcher.

John Nichols Holden, 83, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2012.

John was born April 26, 1929. He graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1948 where he was a member of the undefeated Big Ten Champion-ship football team. He was a Korean War Army Veteran decorated with the Korean Service Medal, Silver Star for gallantry, United Nation Service Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He owned and operated Holden's Grocery for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Raymond Boston officiating. Committal services will be officiated by the Rev. Mike Hickman. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Dyersburg Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patsy King Holden of Dyersburg; two sons John King Holden (Amy) and Patrick Holden (Tammy) all of Dyersburg; a daughter, Jan Holden Jones (Jeff) of Bartlett; seven grandchildren Whitby and Walker Holden, Edye-Bette Holden, Emily, Caleb, Ellie, and Ensley Jones; one sister, Elizabeth Fowlkes of Dyersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Columbus "Bunk" and Edna Nichols Holden.

Pallbearers will be Danny Fowlkes, David Fowlkes, Richard Fowlkes, Dan Fowlkes, Caleb Jones, Walker Holden, Rob Peckenpaugh, and Andrew Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Grady Gentry, Sonny Smith, J.F. Hollandsworth, Rusty Norville, Travis Miles, John Hamilton and Lance Estes.


Rex Henry Thurmond III, 64, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center in Dyersburg. He was retired as a self-employed exterminator and a member of First Christian Church.

Services will be at 12 noon on Saturday August 18, 2012 graveside at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg with Bro. Jerry Mitchell officiating with interment immediately following. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include his fiancee‚ Betty Seals of Dyersburg; three sons, Rex "Hank" Thurmond IV of Dyersburg, Michael Thurmond of Princeton, Ky., and Christopher Thurmond of Dyersburg; and one brother, Glenn Thurmond of Memphis, Tn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex Henry Thurmond Jr. and Peggy Sue Knight Thurmond.

Pallbearers will be Tim Castellaw, David Davidson, Spence Lowery, Mike Bevis, Jeff McKinney, Mike Moore, and Mark Bessent. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles "Bubba" Agee, Kenny Agee, Ray Horner, Kenny Seaton, Gary Beard, Alvin Thurman, David Wood, and David Bessent.

William Starkey, 86, of Illinois formerly of Dyersburg died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Advocate Healthcare Hospice in Libertyville, Illinois.
