Ford L. Boyd, age 97, went to be with the Lord on September 2nd, 2012. Ford was born on June 9, 1915, in Tylertown, Miss. Ford was a graduate of Louisiana State University. He was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II and serviced 18 months overseas. Ford and his wife, Nellie, lived in Memphis, Tenn. from 1940 to 2006, when they moved to Dyersburg, Tenn. to be near their daughter. Upon graduation from LSU, Ford joined the National Cotton Council of America, where he served as Director of Audio-Visual Services until his retirement in 1975. For many years he was the emcee at the Maid of Cotton contest. During his entire life, he used his beautiful tenor voice to sing in church choirs at Highland Heights Methodist and First United Methodist Church Dyersburg, even into his 90s. He also was a soloist at many weddings and funerals. He leaves his wife of 72 years, Nellie Boyd; and his daughter, Susan Ramer and husband, Lloyd of Dyersburg. He was also proud to have two grandsons, Don Ramer and wife, Andi of San Diego, Calif., and Andrew Ramer and wife, Becky of Spring Hill, Tenn. He also leaves two great-grandsons. We ask that any memorials be sent to Highland Heights Methodist Church or the Choir Fund at First Methodist Dyersburg. Visitation is at 9:30 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. service at Memphis Funeral Home at 5599 Poplar Ave., on Wednesday, September 5th.
