Jewell Sparks Roberts, age 76 of the Walter Hill Community, died Tuesday September 11, 2012. A native of Lake County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Henry Powell and Maibell Coleman Sparks. Mrs. Roberts was also preceded in death by her brothers, Wilson and Mack Sparks, and a sister, Lady Sparks Lawson.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband of 55 years, James B. Roberts; son, Kirk Roberts; daughter, Kaleida Watson and her husband Steve all of the Walter Hill Community; grandsons, Britton Roberts and Carter Watson.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday at Woodfin Funeral Chapel, Smyrna with Brother Eugene McNutt officiating. Burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Church of Christ and a homemaker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Mrs. Roberts.

Brother Billie Gene Tatum was born in Crockett County, TN on December 1, 1937 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Booker T. and Thelma Tatum. September 2, 2012 he departed this earthly life after a long illness at Cranbrook Nursing Home in Detroit, MI. Bro. Tatum retired from the culinary profession.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at 11 am at Hopewell M.B. Church located at 323 Gin Rd. in Friendship, TN; Pastor Rev. Carl Hicks officiating. Burial will be at Williams Chapel Cemetery in Friendship. The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 15 from 10 am-11 am at the church.

He leaves behind his loving wife: Mrs. Betty Jean Tatum; 4 sons: Dale Tatum, Sterling Tatum (Friendship, TN), Marcus Bowen (Dyersburg, TN), Tedrick Lewis (Rockford, IL); 5 daughters: Billie Ann Edwards (Detroit, MI), Vickie Campbell (Tigrett, TN), Doretha Tatum, Carolyn Tatum (Friendship, TN), Kenyona Johnson (Columbus, OH); 4 brothers: Roy, Frank, Ewell, Bobby (Detroit, MI); 5 sisters: Darlene Tatum (Tigrett, TN), Lela Mae, Thelma Jean, Patricia Faye (Detroit, MI), Mary (Marion, IL); a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Preceding him in death were 2 sons: Jewel Johnson, Eddie Tatum; 1 daughter: Callie Tatum; 1 brother: T.C. Tatum; 3 sisters: Peggy Lee James, Melvin Frances Johnson, Patsy Ann Sowell. H.H. Hudson Funeral Home in Dyersburg is in charge of arrangements.


Dorothy Marie Witt Tickle "known as Dot", 89, passed away September 8, 2012 of natural causes. Dorothy was born in Gates, TN, May 20, 1923 to Gertrude Nell Witt of Covington and William A. Witt of Gates, TN. Dorothy's siblings include, William "Billy" Witt (deceased), Robert Witt (deceased), Sandra Camille Pruitt (deceased), and Ann Shoaf Vaughn of Ripley, TN now residing in Florida. Dorothy and her late husband of 65 years, William Lee Tickle II had three children. Dorothy is survived by her three children, Phyllis Marie Dreeka of Santa Monica, CA, William Robert Tickle of Houston, TX and William Lee Tickle III of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Janel Marie Brehme of Santa Monica, CA, Brandon Conrad Tickle of Houston, TX and Wes Henson Tickle and wife, Dianne of Houston, TX, as well as her great-grandson Christopher John Brehme of Santa Monica, CA.

In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-laws, Kathryn Tickle of Rosemark, TN and Myrt McCallum of Mason ,TX.

Dorothy and Bill were married Christmas Day 1942 and met in Covington, TN as young teenagers. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother all her life. After they married, she resided in Nashville, TN, Mobile, AL, Philadelphia, PA and finally back to Memphis, TN where she spent the remainder of her life, and Millington, TN as her final residence.

Dorothy was fond of animals, loved gourmet cooking, fashion, travel, home decorating, gardening and was an avid reader. In her early years, Dorothy was a great beauty. She had many passions and was a fiery soul who always spoke her mind. May she rest in peace.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, with the funeral service to be held in the Memorial Park Rotunda at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Memorial Park Mausoleum.


Steven Harris Clark, age 51 of Bogota, TN died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at his residence.
