Trends: According to the Federal-State Market News Service, compared
to one week ago: Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower. Bulls steady. Steer and bull calves steady to 4.00 lower with weights 650 and up
steady to 2.00 higher. Heifers calves under 450 lbs 2.00 to 6.00
lower with weights over 450 lbs steady to 2.00 higher.
Markets made slight changes this week with light weight calves seeing
some weakness. Buyers are becoming more selective on cross-bred calves
with cattle showing Brahman influence being penalized as movement of
these cattle are focused more to the south-western states and limited
to northern states as winter approaches.
Slaughter Cows 736 head; Bulls 130 head; Total Feeders 7,396 head;
Feeder supply, Steers and bulls 4,216 head; Heifers 3,180; Steers
and heifers over 600 lbs 2,492; Replacement and/or feeder cows 468
head.
