4-wheeler accident takes life of young boy

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Dyersburg Police are releasing details of a four-wheeler accident that took the life of a 4-year-old child on Sunday evening.

The accident occurred at around 6 p.m. at 1750 Wheeler St. in Dyersburg when a 4-year-old child lost control of a small ATV four-wheeler. Officers responded to the scene and found a 4-year-old white male with severe injuries to the head. A 2-year-old was also on the motorized vehicle and was reportedly taken in a private vehicle to Dyersburg Regional Medical Center immediately after the accident.

Dyersburg Police Chief Art Heun said a neighbor tried to revive the child before emergency responders made the scene. The child was then transported to the Dyersburg Regional Medical Center helipad to be flown to the Med trauma center in Memphis. However, the child succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Heun noted the chaplains were notified of the situation and they arrived to comfort the family.

The 2-year-old is believed to have had only minor injuries and was later released from the hospital.

Although the crash is still under investigation, Heun said he does not anticipate any charges at this time.

"It was merely a very tragic and unfortunate accident," said Heun.

Why, oh why is a four-year old allowed on a 4 wheeler? And with a 2 year old as well?

This is horrible beyond belief but no one this age should be on any 4 wheeler...

Dang it.... This breaks my heart...This is way past the jokes and giggles we pass on here... motorized vehicles and babies?...Even with adult supervision... It has tragedy written all over on it.... Charges being filed?.... I don't know... The parents will have enough trauma to live with...

dmase right on!! but allowing children to ride these vehicles is certainly akin to leaving a child inside a vehicle while shopping.

The kids were not allowed to rides you judgement passing idiots! The 4 wheeler was the neighbors and in the yard. The young boy somehow got it started and drove just a few feet when he hit the embankment and flipped! Know facts before placing judgement

Nobody is passing judgement...Anytime a child is involved, its sensitive.. Just stating according to the topics.... If u know so much, then educate the rest of us... Thats still a lot for a 4 year old to get on, and darn impossible for a 2 year old to get on without assistance.. Seems like u should get some more facts...
