Members of the Newbern Municipal-Regional Planning Commission wait patiently for additional members to arrive at the meeting scheduled at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday evening. When no one else arrived, the meeting was canceled for lack of a quorum. Crown Castle Property Specialist Jennifer Bawden -- who traveled from Franklin to make a presentation to the group -- spoke with planners present concerning Crown Castle's plans for an existing telecommunications tower on Johnson Street, but commissioners were unable to take any action on Bawden's presentation. In spite of an agenda, a proposal, and a guest who traveled from Franklin, Tenn., the Newbern Municipal-Regional Planning Commission did not hold its October meeting on Thursday evening.

Three members of the commission gathered in the city's Municipal Courtroom with the city planner at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 11, just short of the quorum required to conduct business.

City Planner Christopher Pate offered his apologies to Crown Castle Property Specialist Jennifer Bawden, who traveled from Franklin to make a presentation to the organization. Pate suggested Bawden give a quick summary of the project planned to use an existing telecommunications tower on Johnson Street.

Bawden confirmed that there will be no lighting or light changes to the tower and the footprint of the facility will not change. Crown Castle will switch out a cabinet already located in a shelter on the property and replace antennas already present on the tower. She also went over the procedure for adding a provider to the tower if another carrier chooses to offer services in the area.

No action could be taken by the three planners who attended the meeting.

Members of the planning committee present included Steve McDonald, Dennis C. Bryant and Kirby Ogden.
