Lifeline Blood Board honors Parr for service

Friday, November 9, 2012

Margaret Parr was awarded the 2012 Willis G. Gilliland Award at the Lifeline Blood Board's recent meeting on Thursday, Nov. 8. Parr, who serves as secretary for the board, was chosen for recognition for her dedicated service to the organization. The award honors both Parr and Willis G. Gilliland, the former First United Methodist Church minister who formed the Lifeline board and was responsible for getting blood drives started in the Dyersburg community. Here, Lifeline Blood Board President Gayle Percival presents Parr with the 2012 Willis G. Gilliland Award. From left, Lifeline Blood Board Treasurer John Fisher, board member Bill Van Sant, Percival, Parr, and board members Melinda Glynn, Helen Maclin and Maurice 'Moe' Sims. I can totally testify that Willis preached a sermon that got a whole BUNCH of locals involved with blood donation. I was the blood bank lady at that time and prior to our conversion to WTRBC aka Lifeline Blood Services as a safe supply of blood and blood products, we depended on bus delivery from Lifeblood in Memphis or the Red Cross out of who knows where. This totally devoted group of volunteers has kept the faith for many years..Bravo!
