Newbern Christmas Parade is tonight

Thursday, November 29, 2012

The city of Newbern's annual Christmas Parade is scheduled to start tonight at 7.

Not able to make it to the parade? Watch a live webcast of the parade on the State Gazette's website (www.stategazette.com) beginning at the same time.

The parade begins at the Church of Christ parking lot in downtown Newbern at 7 p.m. The route travels down Main Street, turns left on Washington, and ends at Newbern Elementary School.

Newbern City Recorder Jason Roberts said the Newbern Rotary Club will once again sponsor the parade. He commended members of the organization for their efforts and the success of the event each year.

Those marching in the parade are requested to line up at 6 p.m. on the corner of West Main and Newbern/RoEllen Road, where Rotarians will direct them to the appropriate location.

Following the event, hot dogs and hot chocolate will be available for those who participate in the parade at Newbern Elementary School.

In conjunction with the parade, First Baptist Church of Newbern will host its annual chili supper at the church's activities building. The dinner will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. for $5 per person. The funds will benefit the church's mission trip, scheduled for next summer.
