Choral Society Christmas concert set for Thursday

Members of the Dyersburg Choral Society are busy preparing for the group's annual Christmas concert. The free concert, scheduled to take place at Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 6, features a wide array of Christmas favorites. Dyersburg State Community College will present the Dyersburg Choral Society in its annual Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 6. The concert will take place at Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Admission is free.

The 55-member group is made up of members of the community and DSCC choral students. The choral society is under the direction of Floyd Speck, with pianist Carolyn Burnett accompanying.

Selections for the concert include "Joy to the World," "O Who's That Yonder?," "Deo Gloria," "O Holy Night," "Calypso Gloria," "He is Born," "Hurry, Shepherds, Run!," "This Christmastide," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "White Christmas," "The Sleigh," and "Let there be Peace on Earth.'"

Featured are soloists are Katie Sykes, Kelly Comer and Douglas Boyd on "O Who's That Yonder," and Melinda Evans and Luke Comer on "He is Born."

Membership in the Dyersburg Choral Society is open to everyone with no auditions required.

The only requirement is that residents have a sincere desire to sing and attend rehearsals regularly. Rehearsals are held in the DSCC music room from 7-9 p.m. each Thursday evening during the fall and spring semesters.

DSCC students may take this as a credit course for a fee.

Members of the Choral Society who do not take it as a credit course pay only a small voluntary membership fee.
