Brenda Sue Arterbridge, 47, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

She was an employee of Tyson Food Inc.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bucks Chapel Church in Maury City with the Rev. Joe Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. H.H. Hudson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive visitors at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Survivors include a daughter, Tomeka Arterbridge Wilder; six sisters, Tina Arterbridge of Dyersburg, Evie Williams, Ruthie Johnson, Minnie Arterbridge, Teresa Arterbridge and Anisha Arterbridge, all of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Robert Arterbridge of Dyersburg and Terry Arterbridge of North Carolina; and two grandchildren's.


Rev. George K. Harris III, Pastor Emeritus Grace Presbyterian Church, died peacefully into eternity on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 in Nashville.

Rev. Harris was born in Philadelphia, Penn., March 15, 1921 and moved to Dyersburg in 1952 as a mission pastor to Grace United Presbyterian Church, USA and Greenleaf United Presbyterian Church, USA, Stanton. He served as pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church until retiring in 1993 and continued to serve as Greenleaf Presbyterian Church until 1999. Although he retired, Rev. Harris remained active in the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast and the Wednesday Prayer Breakfast at First United Methodist Church. He also served as a volunteer chaplain for the Dyersburg Police Department. He was always visiting the hospitals, nursing homes, and jails until his health failed and he relocated to Middle Tennessee with his children.

He was also a World War II veteran. He graduated from Lincoln University in Lincoln, Penn. and continued his studies at Lincoln Theological Seminary and received a degree in Theology. He also did post graduate studies at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.

He was the first African-American elected officiating in Dyer County as a county Commissioner.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church.

The family will receive visitors at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Survivors include four children, Stephanie Harris Poeteat of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth McCray (Aaron) of Memphis, Tabitha Horton (William) of Nashville and George Harris IV of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Erika Poteat, Erin McCray, Nelson Horton and Winston Horton; a sister, Althea Harris Hayes (Clem) of Philadelphia, Penn.; a brother, Oscar Harris of Philadelphia, Penn.; and nieces and nephews.

H.H. Hudson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Harold Bateman, 81, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
