"We have had a whole lot of interest," said Dyersburg-Dyer County Photography Club President Steve Guttery. "And we want to give people time to get their photos in."
The annual competition is presented through a partnership between the Dyersburg-Dyer County Photography Club, the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce and several local businesses.
Seven categories are available for photos entered in the contest, including:
* Photoshop Created Assemblage
Images must be taken in Dyer County within the 2012 calendar year. Photos must be submitted as borderless 8-by-10 prints and must be accompanied by the same image in JPEG format on CD. Submit only one image per CD. Digital image files must be named on CD as follows: lastname.firstname.image name (Example: johnson.bruce.courthouse).
The contest is limited to two entries per person per category. The maximum number of entries for each photographer is 14.
Entries may be delivered to the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce, located at the Lannom Center at 2000 Commerce Ave., in Dyersburg. The Chamber is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Mailed or emailed entries will not be accepted.
The $10 entry fee required with each photograph submitted includes mounting by the photo club.
Non-professional photographers in all age groups and levels of experience are encouraged to enter. Those who derive a significant portion (50 percent or more) of their income from the sale of their images are requested not to participate in the contest.
A display of the entries will be erected in the Learning Resource Center at Dyersburg State Community College on Friday, Feb. 1.
Voting by the public will take place between Monday, Feb. 4 and Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Winners of the Shoot Dyer County Photo Contest will be presented over $1,000 in total prizes. First-place winners, named in each of the seven categories, will be awarded $100 each. A People's Choice Award (judged by popular vote at the DSCC LRC display) winner and Best Image of Dyer County (judged by the Shoot Dyer County panel of judges) winner will each collect a $200 prize.
Winners will be announced at a community reception at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 21. The reception will take place in the terrazzo area of the LRC, with a regular meeting of the photography club following in a meeting room at the facility.
