Shoot Dyer County now on display at DSCC

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

Jill Vondy's winning Shoot Dyer County image of the Newbern Depot not only earned accolades in the annual photo contest in 2010, the image was published in the Mississippi River Corridor-Tennessee River Times Magazine in 2012. Images in the Shoot Dyer County 2012 Photo Contest are now on display for judging in the Learning Resource Center at Dyersburg State Community College. Residents are asked to view the entries and cast one vote for the image they feel best represents Dyer County. The entries will be displayed in the DSCC LRC through Thursday, Feb. 21.
Area residents and photography enthusiasts are encouraged to vote on the Shoot Dyer County 2012 Photo Contest, now on display in the Learning Resource Center at Dyersburg State Community College.

The photos may be viewed in the LRC weekdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., on Saturdays. The Shoot Dyer County entries will be displayed through Thursday, Feb. 21.

The public is encouraged to cast one vote for the image they feel best represents Dyer County. (Please only one vote per person.)

"We are displaying 87 excellent images by some very skilled photographers," said Dyersburg/Dyer County Photo Club President Steve Guttery.

Each year the Dyersburg/Dyer County Photo Club and the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce put together the Shoot Dyer County Photo Contest to find the finest images from the preceding year. Those images will be used by the Chamber, city of Dyersburg and Dyer County governments, local school systems and other non-profit agencies to promote Dyer County.

"We have added categories and prize money to refine the contest and attract local photographers," said Guttery. "We listen to what the entrants and the judges have to say as we tweak Shoot Dyer County to make it work for all involved. Our fine-tuning paid off this year with excellent images in every category, especially in the new Wildlife Category."

The public is invited to attend the presentation of the winners at the LRC at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21.

"We thank Dyersburg State for allowing us to display Shoot Dyer County at the LRC again this year," said Guttery. "Shoot Dyer County 2013 has already started and all amateur photographers are urged to get out there and start taking the quality photographs that make the contest so popular."

The photography club will present $1,100 in prize money to the winners this year.

The Dyersburg/Dyer County Photography Club is made up of non-professionals who assemble monthly to learn about photography and have fun. Those who wish to learn more about photography can contact Steve Guttery at 285-3433.
