McIver's Grant Public Library's Kiwanis Kids Corner has another place to cuddle up with a book thanks to a recent donation from Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. Here, officials from the Dyersburg Kiwanis Club and McIver's Grant Public Library pose with two readers who will directly benefit from two comfy rockers provided by the local restaurant. The Kiwanis Kids Corner at McIver's Grant Public Library has a cozy addition with the recent donation of two white rocking chairs from Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.

Dyersburg Cracker Barrel General Manager Stacy Hardesty and Retail Manager Brent Smith delivered the rocking chairs to the library, themselves, and earned the pleasure of meeting two of the children who will benefit from their donation. Hardesty and Smith were also greeted by library officials and employees, who thanked them for their generosity.

"We want to thank Cracker Barrel," said Kerri Heckethorn, who serves on the Board of Trustees for McIver's Grant Public Library and organized the donation. "We so much wanted rocking chairs for this area from the beginning."

Designed to promote early literacy skills and a love of books in children from birth to 3 years old, the Kiwanis Kids Corner was funded by the Dyersburg Kiwanis Club after the civic organization pledged $50,000 over a 10-year period during the capital campaign for the library's new facility.

Club members met their pledge in just two years with the success of the Kiwanis Duck Blast. Duck Blast committee member Tommy Allmon was on hand when the rocking chairs arrived at the library.

"The Kiwanis Kids Corner is the perfect place for moms and dads to come with their babies," said McIver's Grant Public Library Director Dara Gonzales. "It is never too early to start reading."

Children participating in the library's Summer Reading Program will also be treated to the new restaurant's generosity with a donation of 150 kids cards. Gonzales will work with McIver's Grant Children's Librarian Lara Freidhof on just how the cards will be presented to children participating in summer reading activities.
