DCHS grad wins library essay contest

Friday, May 31, 2013

Jordan Palmer won a $100 Visa gift card in McIver's Grant Public Library's Communities Matter @ Your Library essay contest. Palmer participated in the essay contest, which was held in conjunction with National Library Week in mid-April.
Dyer County High School Class of 2013 graduate Jordan Palmer was named the winner of McIver's Grant Public Library's recent essay contest.

The Communities Matter @ Your Library essay contest was held in conjunction with National Library Week April 14-20. The initiative encouraged students to explain how the library matters to their community. The contest was open to all Dyer County students in ninth through 12th grade.

"Last month we asked Dyer County high school students to tell us why the Library matters to our community, in honor of National Library Week," said McIver's Grant Public Library Director Dara Gonzales. "We were impressed by the response; every student that entered wrote an inspiring essay. Congratulations to Jordan and everyone that participated."

Gonzales said today's library helps students and their families discover a new and exciting world through collections and digital resources. Residents may visit the library for help with homework, job searches, citizenship issues, finances, adult education classes or to find the best books for readers of all ages. Libraries are also a great place to spend quality time with loved ones and connect with friends.

Palmer received a $100 Visa gift card.
