On Saturday, Sept. 28, at approximately 12:35 a.m., police responded to a residence in the 200 block of Kist Street in reference to a stabbing. Officers arrived to find Romell Mitchell inside the apartment suffering from multiple stab wounds. Mitchell was transported by ambulance directly to the Air Evac helipad and flown to the MED in Memphis.
Mitchell's uncle, Bobby James Mitchell Jr., 31, 14127 Leavitt St., Dixmoor, Ill., was later taken into custody at the MED, after the investigation determined that he was the alleged suspect in the stabbing.
Bobby Mitchell Jr. was transported back to Dyersburg where he was charged with attempted murder and filing a false police report. He reportedly gave officers a false name as they were taking the initial report. He is currently being held in the Dyer County Law Enforcement Complex on a $200,000 bond. His next court appearance in Dyersburg City Court is scheduled for Oct. 4.
DPD Asst. Police Chief Steve Isbell stated investigators do not have a motive at this time and the victim is in stable condition.
