Library Story Time celebrates Halloween

Saturday, November 2, 2013

Under the watchful eye of Dyer County High School coach Carson Hunter, members of the DCHS Mighty Choctaws put their pumpkin-carving skills to the test. The football players volunteered at last week's Story Time Tuesday, carving pumpkins and creating ghostly images from the footprints of little readers.
Ghostly images were created from little feet with a Halloween-themed craft at last week's Story Time Tuesday in the Kids Zone at McIver's Grant Public Library. Members of the Dyer County High School Mighty Choctaw football team volunteered to help with the special event.
McIver's Grant Public Library celebrated Halloween on Tuesday, Oct. 29 with frightening fun -- and special guests. Here, the library's littlest patrons inspect the inside of a pumpkin during activities with a Halloween theme.
Children participating in McIver's Grant Public Library's Story Time Tuesday were recently treated to a ghoulishly good time with a variety of fun activities and a visit by several special helpers.

Area youngsters meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29 for the Kids Zone weekly story time enjoyed a good book, investigated pumpkins, carved jack-o-lanterns and made ghostly footprints.

Members of the Dyer County High School Choctaw football team and DCHS coach Carson Hunter were on hand to help with the Halloween festivities.

The Mighty Choctaws showed their community spirit by carving pumpkins for the children and painting the young patrons' feet to create a ghost craft.

"I could not have done such an educational and eventful story time without the help of the Dyer County football team," said McIver's Grant Public Library children's librarian Lara Freidhof. "The boys helped with every portion of story time and were patient and gentle with the children. The library is very thankful for their help."

Freidhof also expressed appreciation to very generous patrons who donated orange and white pumpkins in a wide variety of shapes and sizes for the event.
