Library hosts Christmas at McIver's children's party

Saturday, December 21, 2013

Children throughout the Dyer County community recently arrived at McIver's Grant Public Library's new facility for the library's annual Christmas at McIver's party. The event, postponed due to icy weather conditions, was held from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13. Activities included a little visiting with Old Saint Nick, reindeer games, a Christmas craft and a food demonstration.
It seems Old Saint Nick heard the Christmas wishes of community leaders, library board members and local residents at the close of the 2012 calendar year.

Last year, Santa Claus visited children at McIver's Grant Public Library's old location as workers were putting the finishing touches on the library's new state-of-the-art facility. This Christmas season, McIver's Grant Public Library hosted its annual children's party for the first time in its new building.

Postponed because of icy weather predictions, Christmas at McIver's was rescheduled from Saturday, Dec. 7 to Friday, Dec. 13. The event took place from 3-5 p.m., with activities including a visit from Santa Claus, a Christmas craft, reindeer games and a Christmas food demonstration.

McIver's Grant Public Library's children's librarian Lara Freidhof said the event was very successful.

"This was the first Christmas in our new building and we were very pleased with the turnout for Santa," said Freidhof. "Hopefully, lots of children will be very happy Christmas morning."
