Dyersburg's huge half leads Trojans to 4-0 record
The Dyersburg Trojans are now 4-0 after a dominating win over the winless Fayette Ware Wildcats.
The Trojans defeated the Wildcats 41-20, and let the younger players get in the game for most of the second half.
"We got a lot of people in, a lot of people got to play," said head coach Bart Stowe. "The whole second half we took our starters out. We did what we wanted to do. We wanted to come out strong, and go to our second string, our twos and threes, and that's what we did."
Dyersburg finished the game with completing 4-out-of-5 passes for 66 yards, and rushing for 141 yards.
The big story of the game was the defense, holding the Wildcats to -11 yards in the first half, and -1 in the third quarter before allowing 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Coach Stowe was happy to get the younger players in the game after it was out of hand.
"We wanted to reward them," said Stowe, "for working hard in practice each week and give them the opportunity to get out under the lights and play on Friday night."
Offensively, quarterback Chase Boehms was 3-3 passing for 63 yards and a touchdown. Jonathan Thomas rushed six times for 62 yards while scoring 3 touchdowns on offense, defense, and special teams. Shahid Nelson got in on the fun scoring 2 touchdowns, and LaDarius Rogers added a score later in the game.
Stowe mentioned his excitement about the team being undefeated this far into the season.
"We're 4-0, we haven't been 4-0 in a long time," said Stowe. "That's a big accomplishment. There's not a whole lot of teams in West Tennessee or across the state right now that are 4-0. We are and we're very proud of that."
The Trojans will face the Crockett County Cavaliers next Friday night at 7.
