Dyersburg police chief asks public for help this July 4th

Tuesday, June 23, 2015

It was just a year ago that Dyersburg Police were challenged again on the Fourth of July, dealing with disorderly crowds of over 300 people whose intentions were to harm police and create havoc in the community. According to DPD Chief Steve Isbell, in one 24-hour period his department responded to 251 calls for service, of which 79 were for noise complaints. Twenty-five individuals were arrested with a total of 46 charges. Isbell said "While the state code concerns the setting off of fireworks a certain distance from schools or churches or shooting them at individuals, or at cars, or from cars, the city ordinance talks about discharging and disposal of fireworks and seizures." Isbell went on to compare the 2014 July 4th data with those of the week before. Then there were 171 calls for service with only five of those being noise complaints.
