Trojan 'horses' stampede past Ripley

The bright, full moon decorated a dark-blue sky on an evening made for lovers and high school football fans. With summer holding on to its dwindling grip on the weather, two ancient rivals squared off on the table-top turf of J.C. Sawyers Stadium to renew their old rivalry once again. Dyersburg and Ripley, two charter members of the forgotten Big Ten Conference in West Tennessee football, lined up to throw down one more time. Echoes of the Big Ten's past, when the greatest player in Dyersburg history, The Chief, Phil King, who ground defenses into hamburger, might still be recalled by some reading here now. If you don't remember, ask your father or grandfather, they may certainly know about King, the bull of a running back who went on to star in the SEC at Vanderbilt and then was the 12th overall pick in the 1958 NFL draft by the New York football Giants.
