Port Authority talks about prospects
Thursday, December 10, 2015
The Northwest Tennessee Regional Port Authority met at the Cates Landing Port facility in Lake County on Wednesday to discuss prospective users and the certification of authority necessary to begin operations. The Surface Transportation Board (STB under the Dept. of Transportation) is yet to issue permission for the building of a 5-mile railroad spur that will greatly increase the port's accessibility. However, the port is now recognized as a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) No. 283, and as such will be the largest FTZ (outside of Memphis) in West Tennessee.
