Monday morning, Dyersburg Fire Department responded to a house fire occurring in the P building at Greentree Apartments, located 725 Hwy. 51 Bypass.

Dyersburg Fire Chief Tim Ware says the fire began inside of a vacant apartment unit that was being worked on by a member of Greentree’s maintenance staff. Ware stated that a radio had been placed on top of the eye of a stove left turned on.

With black clouds of smoke rolling out from the front and side of the unit, firefighters on scene worked immediately to evacuate tenants residing in the remaining units of the T building before bringing in hoses and fans to eliminate the threat.

According to Ware, one woman was transported from the scene to Tennova Healthcare by ambulance, where she was treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

Ware says the unit sustained smoke damage from the incident, with no sign of fire damage.

Also present on scene were members of the Dyersburg Police Department.
