TDOC taskforce arrests man connected with assault of THP trooper
On Jan. 1 at 8:14 p.m., 25-year-old Terris Tremayne Key was found and arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s TDOC Fugitive Taskforce and is currently being held at the Dyer County Jail.
Key has been at large since allegedly assaulting THP Trooper Tony Freeze during a routine traffic stop, which occurred on Dec. 13.
Key now faces charges, including evading and resisting arrest and criminal impersonation in addition to pre-existing charges, including violation of parole and failure to appear.
At the time the assault occurred, Key was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Danielle L. Crittendon of Dyersburg.
After being stopped for speeding in excess of 30 mph, Freeze deemed Crittendon, who has an 01 restriction on her license, unable to drive the vehicle as she was not wearing corrective lenses.
Freeze asked Key to produce a valid driver’s license so that he might drive the vehicle; however, Key failed to comply with Freeze’s request, instead providing him with multiple fake aliases.
When informed he was being placed under arrest for criminal impersonation, Key allegedly engaged in a brief ground fight with Freeze.
Immediately following the ground fight, Key allegedly made 2 attempts to gain access to Freeze’s patrol car.
Key then fled on foot toward Church Grove Road.
Key will appear in General Session Court on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 9 a.m.
